In the 21st century Avant-Garde mouvement has dominated Australian architecture. Experimental, unique buildings are desgined while reflecting the Australian culture and values. Melbourne is at the focusing point of these design issues. Population growth, preservation of the environment and the threats of climate change are the subjects which Australian architects should deal with. And also sustainability is another subject which is held in architectural design. Cox Architects & Planners, Glenn Murcutt, Fender Katsalidis Architects, Muir and Shepherd, ARM Architecture (Ashton Raggatt McDougall), Denton Corker Marshall are the most recognizable architects/architectural firms of Australia. Currently, Australia has seven of the largest 100 architecture practices in the world: Woods Bagot, Hassell, Cox Architecture, HBO + EMTB, GHD, Hames Sharley, and Thomson Adsett Architects. Australian Institute of Architects is the most recognizable institution and The Architecture Australia magazine is the most widely read publication of the country.
